KRIS Battle Creek: Chart Page

Area North Fork Battle
Topic Habitat: Residual Pool Depth at NF & SF Digger Battle WA Sites

Caption:  This chart shows the average residual pool depth in meters of both scour pools and all pools at all mainstem Digger Creek aquatic monitoring sites for the Battle Creek Watershed Assessment. Scour pools do not include those formed by large wood. Both locations in the North Fork were restricted in depth, with pools about a foot deep. The greatest depth occurs in the South Fork near its headwaters on USFS lands (site #26), but pool depth diminishes at downstream sites. No pools were found on the South Fork reach downstream of the A-Line (#10). Shallow pool depth can be a sign of sediment supply and pool depth normally increases with stream size. Abbreviations are ds = downstream and ab = above. Data from Terraqua (2004). See Info Links for more information.
