Area North Fork Big River
Topic Habitat: Box Plots of Maximum Pool Depth for NF Streams

Caption:  The box-whisker plot above shows, for each surveyed tributary of the North Fork Big River, the distribution of maximum pool depths measured during CDFG stream surveys in 1995-97. As indicated by those boxes which extend above 3.0 feet, only the North Fork Big River, James Creek, Chamberlain Creek and the East Branch NF had greater than 10% of pools deeper than 3 feet. No tributaries had more than 25% of pools greater than 3.0 feet. Pools greater than 3.0 feet in depth are a condition used by Brown et al. (1994) to characterize good coho salmon habitat. Streams are arrayed by Strahler stream order. Data provided by California Department of Fish and Game. Click on Info Links for more information.
