KRIS Big River: Meta Information Page

This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Meta IdentifierDFGhab
Type of DataFish habitat and stream condition attributes
OriginatorCalifornia Department of Fish and Game
DescriptionData collection protocol follows the California Salmonid Stream Habitat Restoration Manual (1998). Data for each stream surveyed comes in three parts: A stream inventory report, a spreadsheet file that contains summary tables and charts, and a database file (.dbf) that contains raw data. Memo field information from the raw data forms was not available.

Serial NameStream Inventory Rpt
PurposeTo document current habitat conditions, and recommend options for the potential enhancement of habitat for chinook salmon, coho salmon and steelhead trout.
Data Quality InformationAlthough trained in standard protocol, crews may have very limited experience, and many data categories are highly subjective. Some data entry errors are evident from impossibly high values.
Use ConstraintsNeither density nor absence of any species can be determined from small, single-pass electrofishing without block nets. No data may appear as zeros in the dataset.
Supplemental InformationThe California Conservation Corps (CCC) Technical Advisors and Watershed Stewards Project/AmeriCorps (WSP/AmeriCorps) members that conducted the inventory were trained in standardized habitat inventory methods by the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG 1998). Biological Inventory was included in some surveys and consisted of single-pass electrofishing small representative sections of the stream without block nets.
