Habitat: Railroad Gulch Embeddedness |
|
Caption: Gravel embeddedness is a measure of gravel quality at potential salmonid spawning sites that is done visually during habitat typing surveys. Embeddedness is the degree to which substrate in pool tail crests are buried. Railroad Gulch had approximately 5% of spawning habitat in optimal condition or less than 25% embedded (Category 1). This method is far less rigorous and useful for determining actual gravel suitability and trends than methods such as McNeil or permeability samples. Data collected and provided by the California Department of Fish and Game, Sacramento, CA. Click on the Info Links tab to review the habitat typing report.
