Aquatic Invertebrates: Drakes Bay Tributaries Pct Dominant Taxa 1999 |
|
Caption: The chart shows the mean Percent Dominant Taxa at several sites in tributaries of Drakes Bay during fall 1999. Communities dominated by one species usually reflect more polluted or perturbed aquatic environments. The reference value shown in the graph provides a regional comparison to preliminary scoring criteria developed by the California Department of Fish and Game for the Russian River Index of Biological Integrity using California Stream Bioassessment Procedure (CSBP) for first to third order streams (Harrington et al., 1999). This study found that Percent Dominant Taxa greater than 39 reflected highly impaired conditions. The Point Reyes National Seashore collected these aquatic invertebrates in according to the CSBP protocols and they were identified by aquatic entomologist John Lee.
