Topic	Habitat: Habitat Types by Percent Survey Length for RC and Tribs

 

Caption:  The California Department of Fish and Game classifies stream habitat according to three basic types of units (pools, flatwater, and riffles) and also notes sections of dry channel. The percent stream length composed of pools (blue bar) is an important descriptor of habitat quality for salmonids. According to DFG benchmarks, less than 25% pools indicates poor habitat for salmonids, and greater than 50% indicates good habitat for salmonids. The occurrence of dry channel is sensitive to flow conditions during the summer surveys, and may otherwise be represented as riffle habitat.
