Fish: 1952 Kimsey Electrofishing Garcia River Site #1-3, CDFG |

    |
Caption:  California Department of Fish and Game staff electrofished the Garcia River at three sites on August 13, 1952 for a study related to "trout" fishing and whether it should be allowed in coastal streams with anadromous fish. While all three sites had a considerable number of juvenile steelhead, the reach below the North Fork (Site #3) also had juvenile coho salmon. Site #1, just above Highway 1, had a larger number of stickleback than salmonids. Sculpin (Cottids) outnumbered steelhead at Site #2, which was just upstream and adjacent to Site #1. Sampling for this study also took place on the Navarro and Gualala rivers. See InfoLinks for more discussion about methods and for a link to the original CDFG (1953) study.
