Temperature: Average at 6 South Fork Sites, 1989 |
|
Caption: This temperature graph shows daily average water temperatures at six South Fork Battle Creek sites in 1989 and references temperatures against stress thresholds for chinook. Thresholds shown on the graph above are for the egg life history stage before July 1 for winter chinook, spring chinook eggs after September 15 and for holding spring chinook adults during summer (July-September). The warmest reach in 1989 was above the Inskip Powerhouse (ABI). The next warmest locations in 1989 were just above the confluence with the North Fork (ABC) and above the South Powerhouse (ABS). One of the coolest locations is above the South Diversion Dam (SDD). Both the Inskip Powerhouse tailrace (IPH) and the South Powerhouse tailrace (SPH) were also cool relative to adult spring chinook needs. The August reduction in temperature of the lowest reach of the South Fork (ABC) was probably a result of transfer of cool water from the North Fork via canals. Reference values follow conventions of the Battle Creek Watershed Restoration Plan (Ward and Kier, 1999). See Info Links for more information.
