The building at lower left in the photograph on the far shore of the Sacramento River below Shasta Dam is the Livingston Stone Fish Hatchery, which is involved in fish culture related to winter run chinook salmon recovery. Winter run once ran up the McCloud River and spawned during summer in cool water supplied by melting glaciers on the shoulders of Mount Shasta. Also visible at the lower left side of Shasta Dam is the recently re-tooled water outflow system which provides cold water for wild winter run in the Sacramento River below while allowing power generation from water drawn from well below the surface of the lake.
