| Caption: This graph shows daily average water temperatures of main Battle Creek above Coleman Hatchery for 1988, 1989, 1995 and 1996. Average water temperatures in 1988 and 1989 approached or exceeded lethal for holding spring chinook salmon. This reach is not expected to supply more than a modest addition to spring chinook habitat in wet years, even if restoration measures are implemented. During the period July 1 to September 14, average temperature exceeded 66.2°F in all four years, indicating that spring-run chinook adults holding at the site would be unable to successfully spawn. During the period September 15-30, average temperature in some years exceeded 62°F, indicating that the site was not suitable for spring-run chinook eggs. Thresholds for high mortality of winter run chinook eggs would also have been exceeded in these years. During the period June 15-30, average temperature exceeded 62°F in all four years, indicating that winter-run chinook eggs would experience 100% mortality.
