Habitat: Pool Type and Pool Frequency, North Fork and Tributaries |
|
Caption: The above chart shows both the proportion of pools by pool type and pool habitat frequency by survey length for tributaries of North Fork Ten Mile River surveyed in 1995-1996. The proportion of scour pools and backwater pools provides information on pool habitat quality for coho salmon, while the pool frequency (red lines) provides information on pool habitat quantity. To assess the degree to which coho salmon may be limited by pool habitat, both parameters should be considered. For example, Cavanough Gulch pools are 51% scour type, but pools occupy only 7% of the stream habitat thus indicating that pool habitat is a limiting factor. Streams are sorted by basin area.
