The image above shows fishermen with a catch of albacore, a tuna like fish that comes close to within several miles of the coast in fall or very near during El Nino years. The image above shows a huge catch of ling cod and other rock fish, probably near the town of Mendocino. The size of some of the specimens is extraordinary. Abalone were so abundant in the era shown above in a post card view that they could be picked from the rocks at low tide. Abalone are harvested for sport use only today but people must dive to pick them. Date unknown. Used with the permission of the Held-Poage Research Library and the Mendocino Historical Society.
