Stream Channel: Dry Creek - Mean Channel Width/Depth Ratio 1940-1984 |
|
Caption: This chart shows the mean channel width/depth ratios of Dry Creek from 1940 to 1984. The width/depth ratio increased from 2.8 in 1940 to 21.6 in 1964 due to significant widening of the channel. After 1964 the width to depth ratio has decreased since the channel was down cutting faster than it was widening. The mean width to depth ratio was 19.0 in 1984. Base level lowering associated with the construction of Coyote and Healdsburg dams and gravel mining in the Russian River at and below the Dry Creek confluence is thought contribute to the extensive widening and downcutting of Dry Creek (EIP Associates, 1994).. Data are from Harvey and Schumm (1987). See InfoLinks for more information.
