This active slump is immediately upslope of an actively used road which is not visible because of the berm. It is possible that the road may have changed slope angles help trigger this movement. The history of grazing is unknown at this location, but livestock may also cause accelerated sliding on naturally unstable grasslands. Photo taken by Patrick Higgins on July 15, 2003.

This photo was taken looking east on the Geysers Road in the Big Sulphur Creek drainage. The road has triggered movement of an earthflow with the result that the guard rail is now several feet down from the road bed. Photo taken by Patrick Higgins on July 15, 2003.

Big Sulphur Creek is shown in this picture looking down a road side gully off the Geysers Road. The hillslopes of the grasslands in the Big Sulphur Creek drainage are susceptible to gully erosion. Photo taken by Patrick Higgins on July 15, 2003.

Closeup of what appears to be old industrial equipment, possibly related to old steam use or mining, on a terrace just above Big Sulphur Creek. Photo taken by Patrick Higgins on July 15, 2003.

The bed of Big Sulphur Creek is visible here in the background but a junked car and its tires fill the frame in the near ground, just off Geysers Road. One tire in the photo is actually on the stream bed (next to green algae). Photo taken by Patrick Higgins on July 15, 2003.
