KRIS Russian River: Chart Page

Area Guerneville
Topic Fish: Estuary Beach Seine Sample Totals 1999

Caption:  This Chart shows the various species caught in the Russian River estuary using a beach seine at three sites from June to November 1999. Fourteen species were captured with Sacramento sucker the most abundant (51% of sample) and threespine stickleback the second most abundant (42% of sample). Sampling at Station #2 was infeasible due to very steep banks at high water levels and snags at low water. Longfin smelt, an estuarine species listed as a California Species of Special Concern, were not known to occur in the Russian estuary prior to these studies (Merritt Smith, 2000). Few salmonids were captured in 1999 than in all other years except 1992-1993. Data from Merritt Smith Consulting and Sonoma County. For more information, click on the InfoLinks tab.
