Aquatic Inverts: CDFG All Russian Tribs Percent Dominant Taxa 1997 |
|
Caption: The California Department of Fish and Game conducted aquatic invertebrate studies of several Russian River tributaries that were recognized as having sufficient biological health to support salmonids from 1995-1997. This chart shows the average Percent Dominant Taxa for each creek and reach in Spring 1997. Three samples were taken at each location but values were averaged to attain the scores listed above. When one insect comprises more than 39% of the sample, as in Bear Pen, Mill and Bear Creek, the aquatic system is in poor condition. The reference values on the chart are those chosen by Harrington (1999) but he recommended that all metrics in combination should be used to judge health (Russian River IBI).
