Topic	Fish: Outmigrant Trap Total Catch NF Navarro River 1996

 

Caption:  The downstream migrant trap on the North Fork Navarro River was operated from mid-March to early June in 1996, a much longer trapping period than in 1995. Although more coho were captured in 1996 than in 1995, the fish community was still dominated by steelhead young of the year. While there were 23 young of the year steelhead for every yearling in 1995, the ratio was 16:1 in 1996. However, trap efficiencies may vary with flows so the proportion could also be related to yearlings being more or less susceptible to trapping at various flows, not their relative abundance.
