The Navarro River estuary is seen here looking east from the shoulder of Highway 1 before it merges with Highway 128, which can be seen on the far bank. Willow borders the estuary on the near side but riparian vegetation on the far side appears less lush, probably due to management of the roadway. The far hillside has a mix of conifers, brush, bay trees and other hardwoods. Photo by Pat Higgins, April 5, 2002.

This photo was taken looking upstream off Highway 1 Bridge at the Middle Navarro estuary. Highway 128 is visible at left. Conifers form the overstory of the riparian zone at middle distance on the right and cover the hillsides in the distance. Thickets of willow and alder form the riparian immediately adjacent to the water. Photo by Pat Higgins, April 5, 2002.
