This picture was taken looking upstream on Anderson Creek in 2001 with hidden vegetated hard points all along the left side of the channel with deep-planted cottonwoods sticking up above the thickets of streams side alder and willow. The cottonwoods at right were those which were uprooted in 1997-1998 and re-planted on the opposite bank. The pool scoured off the massive hard point at left is nearly six feet deep. This pool held juvenile steelhead over summer, and even had an adult run back through October in 2001. Pools this deep may get ground water feeds from under the gravel bar. Photo by Chris Tebbutt.

This Picture shows the same location as Picture #1 but looking downstream to the fully restored bank on adjacent property in fall of 2001. Although surface flows between pools was lost, steelhead young persisted in the pools in 2001 here. Photo by Chris Tebbutt.

This close up shows that a pool-riffle sequence is redeveloping in Anderson Creek here as it is narrowed to its former sinuosity by projects, although surface flows in riffles is lost during summer. Note the thick vegetation covering structures. Photo by Chris Tebbutt. 2001.

Looking upstream in March 2002, one can see well established trees on both banks, with deep planted cottonwoods thriving through dry years. See Picture #6 for the fully leafed out photo form later in the year. Photo by Pat Higgins

This photo shows the riparian zone of Anderson Creek restored through use of bio-engineering. Given the flashy nature of the stream and high sediment discharge, the success is truly remarkable. Photo by Chris Tebbutt. 2001.
