This 1979 photo shows a unidentified salmon carcass (identified in the slide caption as a "grilse", it is most likely a coho). The red arrow points to the track of a black bear, who likely fed on the carcass. The black bear is one of 9 wildlife species identified in Cedarholm et al. (2000) as having a strong, direct, and consistent ecological relationship to salmonids. Photo is from the archives of E-Center/Mendocino Fisheries Program (formerly known as the Center For Education and Manpower Resources) of Ukiah, provided to KRIS by Joe Scriven. Photographer was likely William Kidd. Slide developed in December, 1979.
