This chart shows the maximum daily water temperatures along the NF Salmon during the summer of 2000. Generally, water temperature increased the further downriver it was recorded. Note that Russian Creek appears to have a cooling influence on the NF. In all locations, water temperatures were in the range stressful to Salmonids during late July and early August, with some locations remaining in that range until late August. Data for this chart was derived from automated temperature sensors called Hobotemps, which were anchored in flowing water in the shade. Hobotemps were monitored by students at Forks of Salmon School, community volunteers and paid staff of the Salmon River Restoration Council.

The maximum daily water temperatures during summer of 1996 at three locations on the North Fork Salmon River are displayed above. The Little North Fork seems to be the coolest of the three reaches measured. The temperature spike in early September does not appear to mimic trends at the other locations and; therefore, suggests that the Little North Fork probe was exposed to the air. Confirmed by Petey Brucker as check date.
