Click on image to enlarge (114K). USFS biologist Al Olson documents the condition of an instream structure (at left in foreground) along Indian Creek in September 1997. Although bedload movement in this reach appeared high during the January 1997 storm, some instream structures survived. Photo by Pat Higgins taken in September 1997 as part of Klamath Restoration Program Mid-Term Evaluation (see Info Links).
Boulders shown here in the thalweg of Indian Creek were placed by the USFS as part of stream habitat enhancement. Some clusters were broken apart, but individual boulders still provide some scour and help to improve habitat diversity. Indian Creek shown here in September 1997 during low flow conditions. The larger boulders were formerly part of clusters that were re-arranged at this location by high flows in January 1997. Photo by Pat Higgins taken in September 1997 as part of Klamath Restoration Program Mid-Term Evaluation (see Info Links).
The large boulders in the foreground were installed by the Klamath National Forest to improve habitat in this reach of Indian Creek. The structure has become isolated from the active low flow channel due to shifting bedload during the January 1997 storm. Photo by Pat Higgins taken in September 1997 as part of Klamath Restoration Program Mid-Term Evaluation (see Info Links).
A large wood and boulder structure in Indian Creek that survived the high flows of January 1, 1997 and was providing excellent juvenile salmonid rearing habitat in September 1997. Structure placed by Klamath National Forest. Photo by Pat Higgins taken in September 1997 as part of Klamath Restoration Program Mid-Term Evaluation (see Info Links).
