| Caption: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Arcata Office operated a downstream migrant trap on several Lower Klamath tributaries in 1990 (click on Chart Table to see raw data). One trap was rotated between sites so each creek was only sampled for a total of approximately twelve nights. Trap results suggest that there may have been a shift in fish community structure that has lead to a loss of salmonid species and dominance of warm water adapted species. Although three species of salmonids are still present in Bear Creek, they were far out-numbered by dace Changes in stream morphology related to past erosion could be responsible for this change in community structure (Kier Associates, 1999). Voight and Gale (1998) found that 14 of 16 tributaries on Yurok ancestral territories run underground near their convergence with the Klamath, which signifies significant aggradation.
