KRIS Humboldt Bay: Meta Information Page
This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.
Meta Identifier | DFG_Habitat |
Type of Data | Habitat typing |
Originator | California Department of Fish and Game |
Description | Habitat typing data. Survey protocol follows the California Salmonid Stream Habitat Restoration Manual. CDFG has collected additional data (2002 and the second half of 2001) that were not included in this dataset. |
Area | Humboldt Bay Tributaries |
Metadata Date | 3/6/2006 |
Metadata Contact | Pat Higgins |
Contact Person Primary | CDFG Fortuna |
Status | complete |
Access Constraints | Paper tables in habitat typing field reports were entered into an electronic database for use in KRIS Humboldt Bay |
Progress Log | Complete. Data through 1996 included in KRIS; more recent data is not available. |
Lead Person | Pat Higgins |
Lead Organization | IFR-KRIS |
Notes | There are likely more CDFG habitat typing reports from more recent periods that time and budget did not allow for inclusion in KRIS Humboldt Bay V 1.0 |
Data Set Name | hbhabsum.dbf |
Date of Content Start | 7/8/1994 |
Date of Content End | 9/26/1996 |
Maint. and Update Freq. | More tributaries surveyed than are in this database. Some repeat surveys in reaches of Freshwater |
Serial Name | Habitat Typing |
Purpose | To document current habitat conditions, and recommend options for the potential enhancement of habitat. |
Data Quality Information | Habitat typing is a good inventory tool for salmon and steelhead habitat, there are subjective elements to how different units are categorized (i.e. a series of discrete pool and run habitats or lumping into step-run) |
Use Constraints | Only measures like pool depth can be quantitatively used for measuring trends because observer bias cause more variability in results than actual changes in habitat frequency. |
Supplemental Information | Habitat typing reports on file at CDFG Fortuna for the entire region. Some habitat typing data and surveys are available in electronic form, including GIS |
Scale | Humboldt Bay |
Counties | Humboldt |
