| Caption: This chart shows pooled electrofishing results from a survey of the Little South Fork Elk River in 1994 by the California Department of Fish and Game in conjunction with habitat typing surveys. The data show a community dominated by salmonids, with more steelhead than coho salmon or cutthroat trout. Absence of chinook salmon does not necessarily mean that that species does not use this reach because juveniles would have migrated downstream before these summer samples were collected. The Little SF, however, is fairly high gradient, which would favor steelhead over chinook and coho because the latter species prefer spawning and rearing habitat in low gradient "response reaches".
