Sediment: Morrison/CFL McNeil Samples <4.0 mm, Redwood Cr 1994 (Sum) |
|
Caption: Charlotte Morrison collected fine sediment data in upper and lower Redwood Creek in 1994 using wet-sieve McNeil sampling techniques and results of fine sediment less than 4.0 mm are displayed here. The reference of 30% fine sediment less than 6.4 mm comes from the Garcia River TMDL (U.S. EPA, 1998) and applies to wet sieve samples. The 4.0 mm sieve chosen by Morrison (1994) does not include particles between 4.0 and 6.4 mm, which are in a size class known to infiltrate into redds. Despite this under-representation, sand and fine gravel (<4.0 mm) in both lower and upper Redwood Creek samples exceeded the reference and approached 50% of the bed at the upper site.
