KRIS Big River: Meta Information Page
This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.
Meta Identifier | HTCfish |
Type of Data | Vertebrate sampling by electrofishing |
Originator | Hawthorne Timber Co. (formerly Georgia-Pacific) |
Description | Annual electrofishing for all vertebrates using block nets, and multiple passes. |
Area | Lower & Middle Big River subbasins, Ten Mile River |
Metadata Date | 7/3/02 |
Metadata Contact | Gary Reedy |
Contact Person Primary | Stephen Levesque |
Status | complete |
Request Log | Requested spatial coverage for sampling sites |
Follow Up Date Request | 3/19/01 |
Receipt Log | Received hobo temp locations and information that each aquatic vertebrate sampling reaches encompasses a temperature monitoring site. |
Access Constraints | All request to go through Stephen Levesque |
Progress Log | New senior staff at HTC should be contacted regarding data sharing and presentation in KRIS Ten Mile |
Follow Up Date Progres | 3/19/01 |
Notes | David Wright instructed KRIS staff to use "Hawthorne Timber Company" to refer to their company, and confirmed that electrofishing and temperature monitoring will continue annually. |
Data Set Name | htcfish_4tot.dbf, htcfish_8tot.dbf, htcfish_big.dbf, htcfish_trend.dbf |
Date of Content Start | 6/1/93 |
Date of Content End | 10/15/00 |
Maint. and Update Freq. | Annual |
Purpose | To track the distribution and abundance of aquatic vertebrates. |
Data Quality Information | High |
Use Constraints | Can not examine population structure, or fitness of salmonids because age-classes were not distinguished in samples. Basin-wide estimates involve large extrapolations from minimal sampling and do not involve a valid variance component. |
Supplemental Information | Electrofishing data from 2000 was apparently not worked up into basin-wide estimate in favor of direct count by snorkeling. The 2000 extensive dive survey was lead by David Hines and used snorkelers to count coho salmon juveniles throughout their entire range in the Ten Mile Watershed. Hines stated that the snorkeler counts in 2000 corroborated the electrofishing from that year. |
Counties | Mendocino |
Other Citation Details | Georgia-Pacific and then Campbell group published reports in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1999 that present and discuss this data. The reports were prepared primarily for the North Coast Water Quality Control Board, and can be found in the KRIS Bibliography under the authors, Ambrose and Hines. |
