Fish: Trap Captures in South Fork Caspar Creek, 1964 and 1968 |
|
Caption: A cranberry outmigrant trapped was used in the South Fork Caspar Creek in 1964 and 1968 by Graves and Burns (1970) to measure fish migrant numbers before and after logging in the basin. More fish were captured in 1968, but due to variable trap efficiencies this may not reflect an actual increase in abundance. Changes in catch do indicate, however, a change in the fish community structure as reflected by an decrease in the ratio of coho to steelhead, a decrease in the ratio of smolts to fry for both species. Graves and Burns (1970) hypothesize that the increased emigration of fry in 1968 was the result of a decrease in carrying capacity for rearing fish upstream. See Info Links for more information.
