Topic Sediment: Gravel Permeability All MRC Sites Average, 2000

Caption:  This chart displays gravel permeability from five Big River stream segments in 2000. High permeability values represent favorable conditions for incubating eggs and alevins. Predicted values for percent egg-to-fry survival are displayed by the red markers. The South Fork and Mainstem Big River had moderately low permeability leading to predicted values for percent egg-to-fry survival in the 50% range. Ramon Creek, Daugherty Creek and the East Branch North Fork Big River had low permeability and low estimated values for percent egg-to-fry survival. There was large sampling variability within each stream segment but the results show the expected inverse relationship of higher fine sediment levels leading to lower permeability. See Info Links for more information. Click on Picture for a map of MRC study segment locations. Data from Mendocino Redwood Company.
