Stream Channel: Width/Depth Ratio at NF Battle WA Sites |
|
Caption: The width to depth ratio of the mainstem channel of the North Fork Battle Creek was measured at 10 sites as part of the Battle Creek Watershed Assessment to assist in determining the Rosgen channel type. Reservoirs may trap sediment and buffer reaches of the NF from sediment impacts. Width to depth ratios can be an indicator of sediment over-supply, which can make "response" (light blue) reaches shallower and wider. Some "transport" (dark blue) channel reaches may be confined in bedrock or otherwise incapable of adjustment. Other parameters used for channel typing are entrenchment, sinuosity and slope. Abbreviations are ds = downstream and ab = above. Data are from Terraqua. See Info Links for more information.
