Vegetation: Landsat Veg/Tree Size Summary for All Battle WA Sub-Basins |
|
Caption: This stacked bar chart shows the patterns of tree size and vegetation types for the watersheds above all Battle Creek Watershed Assessment aquatic monitoring sites. The biggest components of Large (>30" dbh) trees are found in watersheds of streams flowing from USFS ownership, such as Nannie (#051-35%), upper NF Digger (#42-51%), Summit (#001-47%) and Turner (#017-56%). The basin above the NF Battle Creek Reservoir (#059) and Rock Creek (#037) are both mostly in private industrial timber land, and had only 6% and 8% large trees, respectively. Basins on industrial timber land at mid-elevation tend to have higher components of Small (5-11.9" dbh) trees, Saplings (1 - 5" dbh) and Non-Forest. The increased Small tree (5-11.9" dbh) component in lower mainstem and SF Battle Creek sub-basins is owing to Blue Oak Woodlands and Eastside Pine ecotypes at lower elevation. Data from USFS and CDF with summaries run by Dr. Paul Trichilo of Kier Associates and the KRIS project. See Info Links for more information. Vegetation types and tree size classes by diameter at breast height (DBH) are as follows: Large = >30" DBH, Medium/Large = 20-29.9" DBH, Small/Medium = 12-19.9" DBH, Small = 5-11.9" DBH, Saplings = 1-4.9" DBH, Non-Forest = No trees, shrubs, grass, bare soil.
