KRIS West Marin-Sonoma: Meta Information Page
This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.
Meta Identifier | PWAredwood |
Type of Data | Climate, flow, water quality |
Originator | Philip Williams & Associates, Ltd. |
Description | Climate data includes summarization of mean monthly precipitation and evaporation data collected from National Park Service and Marin Municipal Water District. Flow was measured at the Pacific Way Bridge from March 1992 to September 1993, and a flow-duration curve derived from Arroyo Corte Madera del Presidio flows. Water quality parameters include salinity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature monitored monthly in the tidal lagoon and in Redwood Creek from August 1992 to September 1993. |
Area | Redwood Creek watershed, focus on Big Lagoon |

Data Set Name | climate_redwood_monthlyrain_pwa.xls.db, flow_redwood_pwa_1992_1993.dbf, flow_redwood_pwa_1993_1994.dbf, wq_redwood_pwa_1993.dbf, wq_redwood_sumpwa_1993.dbf |
Date of Content Start | 1/1/92 |
Date of Content End | 12/31/93 |
Purpose | To gauge flows in Redwood Creek and discern the impact of water extraction by wells in the riparian zone. Also measured water quality to see linkages of low flows to water quality problems. |
Data Quality Information | Good, but flows for frequency curves were calculated from Arroyo Corte Madera del Presidio, which is in east Marin County. |
Use Constraints | None |
Supplemental Information | Climate and flow data analyzed for the California Department of Transportation, District IV regarding data collection for the environmental assessment for the restoration of Big Lagoon (located at the mouth of Redwood Creek) and gathered from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GOGA) and the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD). NPS precipitation Data were used from the beginning of collection in Muir Woods (1941) until the report was written. Regarding MMWD evaporation data, there was no reference to what time-frame data were taken from. |
