Description: 
The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board has conducted stream monitoring in the Lagunitas and Walker Creek watersheds during 2001-2002 as a part of the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP).  The data collected for this effort included macroinvertebrate bioassessment, water, sediment, and tissue sampling.  The goal of the program is to monitor and assess all waterbodies in this Region in order to identify reference sites (clean sites) and/or sites that are impaired.  Data developed in this program will be used for evaluating waterbodies in the region and developing comprehensive baseline water quality information for the whole region.  Specific objectives of the monitoring program are to: 1) identify reference sites, 2) identify impacted sites or waterbodies in order to determine if beneficial uses are being protected, 3) identify the cause of impacts (i.e. sediment, specific chemical contaminants, temperature), 4) determine if these impacts are associated with specific land uses and 5) evaluate monitoring tools in watersheds in order to develop a program that uses the best environmental indicators to achieve the purposes of the program.
