Aquatic Insects: Taxonomic Richness in Corte Madera Creek 1999-2002 |
|
Caption: Benthic macroinvertebrate sampling has been conducted for streams in Marin County draining to the San Francisco Bay by the Marin County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. This graph shows mean Taxonomic Richness at several reaches in the Corte Madera Creek watershed for September 1999, April 2000, and Spring 2002. Samples were collected and analyzed by the Sustainable Land Stewardship Institute (SLSI) and provided by the Marin County Department of Public Works. The reference value shown in the graph provides a regional comparison to preliminary scoring criteria developed by the California Department of Fish and Game for the Russian River Index of Biological Integrity using California Stream Bioassessment Procedure for first to third order streams (Harrington et al., 1999). This study found that Taxonomic Richness less than 26 reflected highly impaired conditions, although SLSI states that this reference may have limited use in the lower-most sites (i.e. CM1). See Info Links for more information and Map to view the sampling locations.
